INCLUSIVE
The Riverview Parks & Recreation Department recognizes that for all individuals play & recreational activity has value in terms of growth, development and meeting basic needs. We also value the importance and responsibility of seeing that the individual with special needs has the freedom of choice in selecting a play or recreational activity experience, and has access to this creative and stimulating environment.
In the summer, the Parks & Recreation Department offers an Integrated / Adapted Summer Fun program for children and young adults with special needs. This is a semi-structured program that enables all children with special needs in the community to become involved in recreational and playground activities, such as, swimming, crafts, sing songs, passive games, outings & special events. The program has been specifically designed to encourage social interaction amongst all children by participating in our various programs and special events.
The Parks & Recreation Department also encourages participation for all special needs individuals in any of our programs offered all year round. Just let us know how we can accommodate you and we'll do our best to make the activity a pleasurable & productive experience.

Inclusion in recreation is essential for meeting the leisure needs of individuals with disabilities. Inclusion provides a person with a disability the opportunity to be included or “mainstreamed” in playgrounds or recreation programs as they participate alongside their non-disabled peers.
